Diabetes Management in the Primary Care Setting Unit 1 - Introduction to Diabetes
This course has been designed for those who have identified a need to update or increase their diabetes and diabetes management knowledge. Unit 1 will provide nurses with a basic understanding of the disease and its impact on the individual and the broader community. This unit will provide the minimum diabetes specific knowledge needed to support provision of quality care to the person with diabetes and their families and carers.
This project was funded by an educational grant from MSD to support improved health outcomes for people with diabetes.
Unit 1 contains 7 Modules plus assessment. Each Module should take around 2 hours to complete.

IV Cannulation
The IV Cannulation course is designed to provide you with an understanding of the steps of intravenous cannulation, special considerations and complications. Supervised practice of IV Cannulation may only be undertaken upon successful completion of this course.
Following completion of this course you should be able to:
- Identify the reasons for inserting an intravenous cannula
- Recall the key themes when educating patients who are undergoing intravenous Cannulation
- Identify key criteria for selecting an appropriate vein prior to inserting an intravenous cannula
- Describe those additional factors that need to be considered prior to inserting an intravenous cannula
- Recall the step-by-step process for safely inserting an intravenous cannula, and
- Identify the potential complications associated with performing an IV cannulation and how these complications can be avoided.
The course is not a stand alone accreditation.
This course should take about 45-60 minutes to complete.

Immunisation 2012
‘Immunisation 2012’ is an online learning program suitable for primary health care nurses in the general practice settings who are keen to update their immunisation knowledge. National Bowel Screening Program
The Cancer Council Australia, in collaboration with APNA, has developed an online learning module about the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program for Practice Nurses. This course will provide you with an understanding of the risk factors and symptoms of bowel cancer, different screening tests for bowel cancer, features of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (NBCSP) and duty of care associated with the management of NBCSP participants.

Using a Doppler to Calculate ABPI
