Learning outcomes

Module 1 Children and Adolescents

This module aims to provide nurses with an understanding of the special needs of children and adolescents living with diabetes and their families and carers.

Module 2 Pregnancy and Diabetes

This module aims to increase the skills and knowledge of nurses of the recommended pregnancy and post partum care and management of women with pre-existing diabetes and gestational diabetes.

Module 3 Diabetes in Older Australians

This module aims to provide nurses with an overview of the special needs that must be taken into consideration when planning care and determining management goals for older Australians with diabetes.

Module 4 Indigenous Australians

This module aims to provide nurses with an understanding of the special needs and specific circumstances that should be considered when planning and delivering diabetes care to Indigenous Australians.

Module 5 Diabetes in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Groups

This module aims to increase the awareness among nurses of the special needs of culturally and linguistically diverse groups within the community in relation to their diabetes and its management.

Module 6 Support Services and Self Management

This module has been developed to provide an overview of the services available to people with diabetes and their families and carers and an understanding of the importance of providing self-management support.

Module 7 Psyco-social Management and Depression

This module aims to provide an overview of the issues relating to psycho social management and depression for people with diabetes, their families and carers and an understanding of the importance of assessment and providing support in this area.

Unit 2 contains more detailed information required to adapt a care plan and management of individual person's requirements and covers the following areas:

Suitable for nurses working in primary health care including general practice.

Estimated Duration

10 hours. Unit 2 contains 7 Modules plus an assessment. Each Module should take between 1 and 1.5 hours to complete plus an assessment.
